A Scottish-American industrialist who led the expansion of teh American steel industry. His article "The Gospel of Wealth" called for the rich to use their wealth to improve society and it started a wave of philanthropy. He started as a telegrapher and later had investments in railroads, railroad sleeping cars, bridges, and oil derricks. He build the Carnegie Steel Company that was later sold to J.P. Morgan. After the selling of his company he devoted himself to large-scale philanthropy. He built Carnegie Hall and founded many other things.
