corrupt bargain
- Term for the apparent deal made between John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay to have the election be decided by the HoR, which would be in Adams' favor.

- Practice of rewarding political supporters with public office.
Tariff of Abominations
- Unprecedentedly high taxes on imports, which was strongly opposed by southerners saying that it was hurting southern farmers.
Nullification Crisis
- Conflict between Jackson and South Carolina legislature which declared the tariff null and void int eh state and threatened secession if the federal government continued trying to collect taxes.
Compromise Tariff of 1833
- Passed to end the nullification crisis saying that tariffs should be lowered gradually over 10 years.
Force Bill
- Passed with the Compromise Tariff allowing the president to use the military to collect federal tariffs.
Indian Removal Act
- The removal of Indian Tribes still located east of the Mississippi and relocating them west of Arkansas and Missouri; tribes who resisted were forcibly removed.
Trail of Tears
- The forced walk of 15,000 Cherokees from Georgia and Alabama to Indian Territory; 4,000 dieing on the journey.
Black Hawk War
- Clashes between American forces and Indian chief Black Hawk who tried and failed at reclaiming territory lost in the removal act.
Bank War
- Battle between Jackson and Congressional supporters of the Bank over the bank's renewal, Jackson vetoing the bill.
Anti-Masonic party
- Had influence in New England and the mid-Atlantic during the 1832 election, which opposed Jackson and got a lot of their support from evangelical Protestants.
pet banks
- Pro-Jackson state banks which received most the deposits when Jackson dismantled the nation Bank.
Specie Circular
- Decree saying that all public land had to be purchased with metallic currency.
panic of 1837
- Economic crisis caused by bank failures, increasing grain prices, and Jackson's efforts to stop overspeculation of western lands and transportation improvements.
Alamo
- Fortress in Texas with 400 American volunteers were killed by Santa Anna in 1836.
Goliad
- Texas outpost where American volunteers were massacred by Mexican troops in 1836.
San Jacinto, Battle of
- Capture of Santa Anna who was forced to withdraw his troops from Texas and that Rio Grande was the southwestern border of Texas.
