He wrote two influential pamphlets, Common Sense and The American Crisis, which inspired Patriots to declare independence from Britain. He immigrated to the colonies to help Benjamin Franklin, and just in time to participate in the American Revolution. He was arrested in Paris because he supported deism, promoted reason and freethinking, and was against institutional religion.
