An American financier, banker, philanthropist, and art collector. He funded the Edison General Electric and Thomson-Houston Electric Company and merged them to create General Electric. He also merged Carnegie Steel Company and several other steel companies to create the United States Steel Corporation. He invested in companies like Tesla and even helped fund the Titanic and was scheduled to be on it but canceled at the last minute. Lifelong member of the Episcopal Church. He died in Rome, Italy at the Grand Hotel in his sleep.
