He founded the Latter Day Saint Movement. When he was 24 he published the Book of Mormon. He was born in Sharon Vermont and moved to New York and during the Second Great Awakening he heard a series of visions. An angel led him to a book of golden plates and he published an English translation of the plates (Book of Mormon). Smith and his followers moved out west and finally made a thriving settlement in the Utah desert. Before he died he was able to attract tens of thousands of followers to the Mormon religion, he established cities and temples, and founded a religious that is still prominent today.
